Capistrello Rolls Up Its Sleeves: A Day of Ecology in the Name of Quirino Fantozzi
Capistrello – There are afternoons worth more than a thousand civic education lessons taught within four
walls. Last Saturday, the streets and paths of Capistrello came alive with a different kind of enthusiasm thanusual: not for a town festival or a sports event, but for a shared mission. Equipped with gloves, biodegradable bags, and plenty of determination, dozens of volunteers gathered for a major environmental clean-up day. The initiative was not only a way to clean up public spaces, but also a heartfelt tribute to Quirino Fantozzi.
For those who may not know, Quirino was an important figure in the local community, a man who dedicated much of his life to protecting the environment and promoting the natural beauty surrounding the town. Remembering him through concrete action seemed to everyone the most sincere way to honor his legacy.
A “Green” Army Against Waste Abandonment
The scene was impressive: from elementary school children to grandparents, including many high school students, the group searched through several critical areas of the town and its outskirts. Unfortunately, the “harvest” was far too abundant: plastic, cans, cigarette butts, and even illegally abandoned bulky waste were collected.
“Seeing so many young people taking part makes us understand that Quirino’s message is more alive than ever,” one of the organizers commented during a break. “We are not only collecting trash, we are planting respect for the place where we live.”
Beyond Cleaning: A Message for the Future
People often say that we, the “Generation Z,” are only good with words or social media posts, but on Saturday we proved the opposite. Getting our hands dirty for the common good makes us feel part of something bigger. The day ended with a shared moment of reflection, during which everyone was reminded that Quirino Fantozzi’s commitment should not end with an annual event, but become a daily
lifestyle.
Cleaning is important, of course, but not littering is even more important. If Capistrello shines a little brighter today, it is thanks to those who believed in this cause and to people like Quirino, who taught us to look at nature with different eyes.
